A birthday, a visit to my parents and a new car

I've been avoiding posting this month.  This is my bday month and I feel like I should post about it but I was a little depressed about turning 35.  Yep, 35.....it's officially middle aged for me.  There's no going back once you're 35.

On my birthday I decided for a present for myself I was gonna go to bed as soon as Nerdus got home.  So I did exactly that.  I didn't want to go out to dinner, have cake or open presents.  I went to bed around 6:30pm.  Jealous?  It was pretty awesome, I however, woke up at 9pm which wasn't so awesome.  While I had been avoiding aging, the girls and Nerdus went out and bought me a bday cake and orchids.  So nice of them.  So for my bday dinner I had cake. My bday present is a new to me car but more on that later.

This past week I went to visit my parents.  I had told them that this year the girls weren't allowed to go to their house for a extended stay.  Not because I didn't feel they couldn't handle it or aren't good supervisors but because someone always has to come home early.  One year Supergirl had to come home early because of a UTI and the next year Supergirl had to come home due to wasp stings.  My Dad convinced me to come down too so that I would be there so help supervise.

On the way down my "check engine" light came on.  Well, crap I thought and so I got off the freeway and turned around to back home.  Luckily I wasn't that far from home yet.  I got home made a appointment to take the car in and talked to my parents who very kindly and graciously offered to come get us and take us down to their house.  They really wanted to see the girls.

We came down and the girls had a fabulous time.  My dad took them swimming at the local pool, no one pooped in it which was awesome.  At our local pool kids poop in it all the time it seems and it has to close. That night my Dad made Horsegirl stuffed bell peppers which she loved ( I think they're ewwwwy) and the rest of us ate taco salad which my mom made.  We sad outside in the dark and I may have freaked out about a spider.  We tried to scare Pompa (my dad) by knocking on his windows.  We didn't avail in out quest though.

The second day my parents took them out for a picnic at the pool and to also swim. Also my mom drained a little pool they have and the girls got to catch frogs which I think was their favorite part of the stay.  Frogs are pretty cool.    After the pool they came home and we left. On the way home we stopped at this fantastic Amish place where I bought some great things one of which nerdus hates.

So back to my bday present of a car.  We took my Oddessy in to the mechanic and they did all the checks and it turns out it's my transmission and it's slipping which I kind of suspected.  Since it would cost more to fix than my car is worth we went car shopping.  I'd be wanting a car for awhile.  My new car is going to be a 2008 Oddessy in grey and it's really quite snazzy.  So that's my present since I still hadn't gotten one for my bday.  It will be ready on Wednesday and just in time for my Oregon trip.

look at what I found

Okay you really cant look because my camera is missing once again.  So I'll just tell you about it.

Yesterday I was sitting at the computer while the girls cleaned their rooms.  Supergirl was dying to get into Horsegirls' room but Horsegirl wasn't letting her in.  Oh the travesty.  So I got up to talk to Horsegirl and I found a sign on her door.  Here's what it said.

Eve's Bedroom Rules!

1. Do not enter without permission.
2.  Always knock to come in.
3.  Do not Touch anything that looks fragile including my Hermit Crab.
4.  Do not go in my closet.
5. HAVE FUN!

It gave me a good laugh especially the "always knock to come in" when have the girls ever knocked to come in my room.  Never that's when geez.  Horsegirl is becoming such a teenager in some of her actions.

Supergirl is becoming a tween.  Yesterday, several times, I had to tell her to take her ear buds out so she could hear me.  Plus I believe I said something like "if i can hear it then it's too loud" referring to her ipod.

I'm such a mom.

Zoo Camp

For the past 3 years or so the girls have been taking Zoo Camp.  They go to the zoo and learn about conservation, animals, habitats etc.  They always learn so much and have a lovely time.  The zoo gets wonderful camp counselors and they are fun and really excellent with the kids.  The girls went this week and on Thursday the spent the night with their Aunt D who works for the zoo and then went to work with her in the morning to be dropped off at camp.  Aunt D took this amazing pic of Supergirl with the polar bears

Pretty cool!  Today was their last day of camp.  Horsegirl is in the older class and she got the opportunity to clean out the show animals habitats.  She and her friend cleaned out the Indian Star Tortoises' home.  The tortoise urinated on her and she thought this was totally awesome.  That kid is so funny.   Supergirl hopes to work at the zoo one day in her Aunt D's job.  I think she thinks it's awesome but really it's  a highly stressful job full of lots of paper work and emails.  That said I think she'd be a great teacher at the zoo if that's what she chooses.  Zoo camp is AWESOME!

On a side note as we were walking out of the zoo today back to our car we saw a opened but unused (thank goodness) tampon just sitting out in the open.  Total eeeewwwww.  Poor Aunt D had to pick it up because really, who wants to see that walking into the zoo.   YUCK!

A visit to the stitch shop

I went to the Cross My Heart, which is the local stitching store today.  I am a member of the ornament of the month club and I had to pick up my new ornament.  Very exciting.  Of course you can't go to to the stitching store without taking a gander at all the new stuff they've gotten at trunk shows.  I picked up these two patterns.  I got the ABC Tapestry and the Season Trees.  I am so excited to start them.  They are multiple page patterns which I've never  done so I am a little worried about that.
I also picked up 2 tube like frames to keep my fabric taunt when I stitch. I've been just holding the fabric in my hand but as I get better at stitching I'm wanting my stitches to be more even.

Here is the pattern I'm working on now.  It's called Liberty by Little House Needle Works

I've just barely started on it.  I have the top half of one circle done maybe 30 stitches.  I started this because I made a mistake on my knitting.  I was working on a baby blanket for my brothers new baby that is coming later this summer.  I, of course, picked out a beautiful lace pattern for the baby and I have been diligently working on it.  When I originally read the pattern I thought it called for 8 repeats of the lace pattern and I had this wonderful washable green cotton that was soft and I thought it would work nicely.  I had just enough to make the blanket...there would be no extra.  Well I was almost done with my 8 repeats and I was thinking wow this looks awful small but once I get the border on maybe it'll be a lot bigger.  I reread the pattern and it called for 18 repeats not 8. Obviously I had to quit I wouldn't have enough yarn.  I'm going to frog it and use the yarn to make a baby sweater I just have to find the right pattern.  My hearts just not in it anymore.  Sometimes since I've started stitching I've wondered if I've lost my love of knitting.  Maybe my love is taking a hiatus.  I still enjoy knitting but I'm thinking of other stitching projects I'd rather be doing while I'm knitting.  I don't know what to make of this development.

House Elf?

Tonight as I was picking up the family room before I went upstairs to bed I found myself muttering to myself things like, "I asked her to pick up these socks and put them in the laundry room.",  "I told them to put that in the sink.",  "one of  these days I'm going to fall down the stairs because they leave their crap all over them".  You get the idea.  I realized I felt like a house elf and overworked, under appreciated house elf.  I didn't feel like a cheery house elf either I felt like Kreatcher from Harry Potter. (picture below)

I'm sure I look exactly like this too when I'm muttering under my breath picking up stuff.  I have some excellent death glares and scowls.  If you've ever read the HP books you'll know that he wanders around the house muttering under his breath.  If you haven't read the HP books you really should they're very good.  So I wandered around the house this evening muttering under my breath about cleaning and how no one else cares about a  clean house but me.  Which isn't true because Nerdus cares and picks up most of his stuff.

Not to leave this on a negative grouchy note because Horsegirl helped me make dinner and Horsegirl and Supergirl both helped me re-pot our aloe plant.  They also helped pot some succulent plants and water the flowers.  My columbine is blooming and so are my snap dragons.
I need to be more of a happy house elf or better yet, have a cleaning fairy come while I'm sleeping.  Never going to happen, but one can dream.

Blog posts

I think of these really awesome blog posts as I'm laying in bed going to sleep.  I think I should really get up and post this but then i think no I'll remember and do it tomorrow.  Guess what, I forget them.  So I guess it's good I don't get up and post or you'd have my sleepy ramblings which I think are genius but probably really aren't.

Here's one I remember.  Nerdus had a pretty scary health scare this week.  Don't worry he's fine and will be fine thank goodness.  But I wanted to let everyone know what I learned from this very scary experience.  I learned that I really love my husband.  Cliche?  Maybe, Probably.  But it's true.  I told Nerdus that he can't die because he and the girls are my world.  I rely on Nerdus completely.  He does everything for me.  He changes the light bulbs, fixes the tv remotes, puts batteries in all things that need them, he mows the lawn, calls the repairman when he's needed, he also takes the cars in when they need oil changes etc.  I also should take from this that I should be more self reliant but mostly I take away from this that I love my husband, he's my best friend and that I need him and the girls need him too.

Batman or Harley I prefer Batman

This is on his first day home!  I took him to the groomers this week and had them paint his toenails red.  Nerdus said "did you have to paint his toenails"  Well yes, yes, I did.  He looks all the more handsome with them painted.  I guess Nerdus is upset because Batman is a  boy and it isn't manly to paint your toenails red.
